One side of these earrings features the butterfly representing Hua Cheng, while the other features the flower branch for Xie Lian. I suspect the design intent was inspired by the Tang Dynasty jiaofang melody "Die Lian Hua" (蝶恋花), which translates literally to "Butterfly Loves Flower." This name echoes both Xie Lian’s title as the "Flower-Crowning Martial God" and Hua Cheng’s signature "Silver Butterfly."

Regarding "Die Lian Hua," its original name was "Que Ta Zhi" (鹊踏枝). It is a jiaofang melody/ci brand, which you can think of as a melody template that ancient Chinese scholars filled with lyrics. The name change most likely originated from the Southern Tang ruler Li Yu's ci "Die Lian Hua: Yao Ye Ting Gao Xian Xin Bu" (which is the version I personally believe). Why mention this?
