Curator's Comment

I got this collectible from the second-hand market. I did not draw it myself from the lottery. This series has two light art frames: Buyu and Jinghong. Strictly speaking, Jinghong fits the original line “a startling glimpse on Shenwu Street” more directly. But when I saw Xie Lian walking alone, and then Hua Cheng appearing behind him with an umbrella once the light turned on, my fan instincts were hit hard.

So I bought this Buyu light art frame at the time. But because I have cats at home, precious collectibles are not really suitable for display in my apartment. As a result, this light art frame has been sitting in a cabinet collecting dust ever since I brought it home. The Liuyun coaster from this series is also sitting in the cabinet collecting dust.

The light art frame itself still really gets me. In Chinese, “buyu” is commonly understood through the phrase “zhisi buyu,” meaning an unwavering devotion that does not change even until death. To me, this is a collectible that shows love from its beginning all the way to its end.

The word “buyu” comes from the Book of Songs, specifically “Zheng Feng: Gao Qiu.” In classical Chinese, it carries the idea of refusing to betray one's principles or abandon one's loyalty, even under pressure or at the cost of one's life. It is not just “staying loyal” in a casual sense; it is closer to keeping faith when changing sides would be easier, safer, or more profitable. That meaning echoes the original line: “Your Highness, I will always be your most devoted believer.”

From the childhood moment on Shenwu Street, from the first startling glimpse, whether Xie Lian was the glorious Crown Prince, a Martial God worshipped by countless people, or the fallen and shabby “scrap-collecting god,” that sentence runs through Hua Cheng's entire eight hundred years.

As for the Jinghong light art frame, I probably will not collect it for now. After all, my small shop has not sold much yet. I cannot keep filling my home with things I love very much but can only store on shelves and let gather dust. If someone wants it, they can contact me.
